Hurricanes & Natural Disasters

Natural Disasters

We all appreciate how wonderful living in Florida is. We're blessed with beautiful beaches, tons of sunshine and a great quality of life. However, along with the good comes the bad – hurricanes and the resulting insurance crisis.

Kendrick's education in disaster relief began when he was a state trooper assigned to work with former Lt. Gov. Buddy MacKay. After Hurricane Andrew, Kendrick was on the ground with the Lieutenant Governor, working closely to help South Florida communities recover. Since then, Kendrick has been a strong voice for those affected by disaster. In Congress, Kendrick:

  • Co-sponsored the Fair Disaster Tax Relief Act, which would provide consistent aid for businesses and homeowners.
  • Introduced a bill that would help nonprofit educational institutions recover from natural disasters.
  • Pushed for additional relief funding for victims of hurricanes and other natural disasters.
  • Supported an independent investigation into the response to Hurricane Katrina.
  • Voted for funding to rebuild and strengthen levees.
  • Secured help for Liberty City and Brownsville from the Federal Emergency Management Agency after a devastating tornado.

Kendrick shares the concerns of all Floridians that the next storm that comes along could be the one that wipes out their business or home and leaves their family with nothing. That's why he’s working on a solution to the state's insurance crisis. Kendrick has been a leader in the push for a national catastrophic insurance fund. He has worked closely with House and Senate members to pass this legislation, which would help reduce the cost and increase the availability of insurance in Florida.
