Marks Endorsement
U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek Endorsed for U.S. Senate by Tallahassee Mayor John Marks
Miami Gardens, FL – U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-Miami) was endorsed today by Tallahassee Mayor John Marks. “To lead a 21st century city, you need to possess a 21st century outlook and Mayor John Marks is that type of forward thinking leader. He understands that today’s modern cities must embrace green values, implement the latest technology tools, support business innovation, and provide improved transportation services to it’s citizens,” said Congressman Kendrick Meek. “John has seen public servants come and go from our capital city and he knows that leaders in government are people who reflect the values of everyday Floridians. Though South Florida is home, my family comes from the Big Bend area and our roots are firmly planted in Tallahassee’s soil. I look forward to his support throughout this campaign in Tallahassee, Leon County and beyond.”
“At each time in Congressman Meek’s life he has called Tallahassee home, whether as a student leader at FAMU, a State Trooper who rose to the rank of captain and learned how good government operates firsthand from former Governor Lawton Chiles and Lt. Governor Buddy MacKay, or a state Representative and state Senator who demonstrated leadership for his constituents and for all Floridians, Kendrick has made a lasting and positive impression on this community,” said Mayor John Marks. “Seldom do leaders like Kendrick emerge to tackle the hard issues that Floridians want solved, but that too few public servants are willing to take on. Kendrick’s voice on behalf of my constituents has been heard in Tallahassee, and as a U.S. Senator, it will be heard throughout the state. Florida will be better off when Kendrick Meek is our next U.S. Senator.”
On Wednesday Meek was endorsed by Broward County Mayor Stacy Ritter and on Thursday, he was endorsed by West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel.
Kendrick Meek is seeking to become the first statewide candidate in Florida’s history to qualify for the ballot by petition and is collecting 112,476 petitions from registered Florida voters by March 2010, rather than pay the filing fee to qualify for the ballot. The Primary Election will take place on August 24, with the General Election scheduled for November 2.
U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek is serving in his fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the 17th Congressional District of Florida, which includes parts of Miami-Dade and Broward counties. He is the lone Florida Democrat sitting on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. Meek also serves on the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and is a member of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. Prior to his election to Congress, Meek served eight years in the Florida House and Senate and was a captain in the Florida Highway Patrol.
