Firefighters: Rubio’s Plan “Would Be Disastrous” for Florida. On Dec. 15, 2007, the Miami Herald reported that Gary Rainey, Vice President of the Florida Professional Firefighters Union and Miami-Dade firefighter, said that Rubio’s tax cut plan “would be disastrous. The paper added, “The property-tax reductions imposed by legislators early this year have already forced Miami-Dade to cancel two recruitment classes of 75 firefighters who were ready to be trained and hired, he said. If either amendment passes, layoffs are next, he said.” [Miami Herald, 12/15/2007]
