Kendrick is a friend to Florida’s seniors. He has sought ways to increase the solvency of Medicare, lower prescription drug prices, boost funding of medical research and increase the number of physicians practicing in Florida. Kendrick also supports expanding services such as senior centers, meal delivery programs, supportive housing and rental assistance, and supported the Family Caregiver Support Act, which ensures that family members who care for elderly or disabled relatives get the support they need.
Seniors depend on Social Security, and Kendrick appreciates the importance of this popular and successful program. While Social Security faces long-term financial problems, it is not going broke anytime soon. Kendrick believes that Congress should shore up Social Security's finances, which can be done through relatively modest adjustments. Recent Wall Street losses prove that privatizing Social Security would be a dangerous gamble.
In the wake of the Bernard Madoff fraud case, Kendrick has introduced legislation that would help individuals who lost money – many of them seniors – recoup some of their losses. In Florida alone, there were 2,010 victims of the Madoff scandal. Kendrick's legislation would work through the tax code to return some of those lost investments.
Kendrick's Mortgage Fraud Task Force Act, which was signed into law, would help protect seniors who own their homes from being taken advantage of by bad lenders. Kendrick understands that for many seniors, owning a home provides both security and an investment. He is determined to protect Florida's seniors from mortgage fraud and subsequent foreclosure.
